Jesus said: “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” (Matt 6:19-21)

…and the outcome of that sort of living means we can ‘Live simply so that others may simply live’ (a pithy bit of wisdom from Mahatma Gandhi)

God promises to provide for our daily needs – the emphasis of this week’s passages – and yet our Western culture persuades us that there is always more ‘stuff’ that we need. Yet that stuff can get in the way of life. It needs sorted, cleaned, repaired, upgraded, stored….

This week’s challenge is simply to think about how to live more simply with less ‘stuff’. Plenty out there about reducing, reusing and recycling but could we also borrow (or lend) something that we need instead of buying it…that power washer for example.

Street bank was set up for just that purpose – for people to give things away, share things and share skills all of which makes for better neighbourhoods..and more space in our lives.
