Churches in Chiswick, Brentford and Isleworth are offering sheter for homeless individuals this winter. They will be providing a warm, safe and welcoming environment for 7 nights of the week for up to 15 people from January through to the end of March. Each night one church will open their doors from 8pm to 8am and serve an evening meal and a place to sleep followed by breakfast. The guests are pre-screened through referral agencies as these shelters are not equipped to help those with some of the more complicated issues relating to homelessness. 7 churches are offering a venue – one for each night of the week – and volunteers from a large number of other churches are helping with preparing meals, serving, washing up, staying overnight, preparing breakfast and clearing up.
HOW IS ALL SOULS INVOLVED?
We are helping on the 2nd and 3rd Thursday of the month at Hounslow Methodist Church with the evening team (8 – 10pm). We will be preparing and serving meals, chatting to the guests and clearing up. St Stephens Twickenham are providing most of the other volunteers to man the shelter at Hounslow Methodist Church.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE INVOLVED?
If you would like to be involved then please contact El Tuck via email firstname.lastname@example.org. We are particularly looking for volunteers for the 2nd Thursday of the month. This would be 12th January, 9th February or 8th March. Alternatively if you would like to contribute to cooking a meal for 15 to 20 people rather than be available on the night please do get in touch. There are funds to cover food expenses.
