Review is an opportunity to chat about books, films, theatre, art
exhibitions and how our Christian faith shapes our response.....
Autumn Term 2008
A real variety this term so hopefully there will be a bit of something for everyone....
- Tuesday 18th of November - screening of 'We Are Together' at Richmond Film House, 8pm (tickets £7 from Ali)
Tearfund
are screening the multi award winning film which tells the story of a
children's choir from the Agape orphanage in South Africa. The children
in the Agape orphanage have been orphaned because of AIDS and this film
speaks of their incredible journey; Bono of U2 fame calls it 'an
incredible piece of work'. If you would like to know more go to: http://wearetogether.org/
There will be a Q&A after the film and an opportunity to hear more about Tearfund's global HIV strategy.
Profits go to Tearfund's HIV and AIDS fund. If you would like to come please let Ali know.
- Saturday 29th of November, 7.30pm at St. John's Smith Square
Fulham Symphony Orchestra's 50th Anniversary Concert
Our
very own Katy Wareham plays with this orchestra and we have been to
hear them before - highly recommended! Katy has kindly offered to put
together some background notes for us about the pieces we will be
hearing. Tickets £10 (£8 concessions) - I am happy to book these via
the St. John's Smith Square box office as before, just need to know
number by the end of the first week in November.
The Progamme for the evening is:
Marc Dooley conductor; Juliet Hughes-Rees leader
Brahms - Academic Festival Overture; Mahler - Symphony No. 5
- Finally,
later in the term (probably November) we are
planning a short course (two or three Wednesday evenings) on Ian McEwen's Atonement
(probably both the film and book....). There are some great resources
out there on this piece - interesting stuff to explore on forgiveness
and the meaning of atonement....More details to follow nearer the time.
