ImageIf there’s a question about giving not answered here, or if you’d just like to chat things through, please do ask! Sue Wing (Church Administrator), Dave Kerr (Treasurer) or Richard would all be very happy to help.

  • Why Give?

If All Souls is your home church and you would like to see the vision and plans set out for the coming year become reality, then that’s a good reason to support the church financially. Don’t give out of guilt, or just because we say we “need” the money!
  • Who looks after it?

The PCC (Parochial Church Council) is made up of members of All Souls elected to work alongside Richard in leading the church. They have responsibility for financial issues and receive a regular report from our treasurer Dave Kerr. They approve the budget and oversee large items of expenditure. Week-by-week decisions (within the year’s budget) are delegated to Finance and Building Teams.
  • Is it confidential?

Only two people handle information about givers - Dave Kerr (our treasurer) and Sue Wing (our Adminstrator). They know the importance of confidentiality. No-one else (including Richard) knows who gives nor how much.
  • Where else does money come from?

Until last year, we were being subsidised by the generous giving of other. Now we are able to pay our own way. We get nothing by way of direct financial support from the government or national church. More than 80% of our income is from the generous voluntary giving of people like you - the rest comes from the hire of our halls, renting out our church flat and the remainder of a Trust Fund which we can spend on the church buildings.
  • What's the best way to give?

What helps us most is regular monthly amounts so that we can plan ahead. Whether it’s £10 or £400 you’re donating, setting up a Standing Order (using a simple form or via an internet bank account), helps very much. We are, of course, very grateful indeed for others who give by cheque, via their paypackets or in cash when they are able. It all makes a difference!

  • What's it spent on?

Our budget for a year covers four main areas of spending - aiming to resource our vision for All Souls:
    • Foundations - from building maintenance to paying the heating, lighting and insurance bills. Unglamourous, but necessary stuff. (~£45k in ‘07)
    • Resources - e.g. children & youth group materials, the church p.a. system and our printing and office costs are just some of the many things are resources for effective ministry. (~£19 in ‘07)
    • People - central to our budget is seeking to build up a staff team who can bring skills, experience and time to our mission and ministry here. (~£100k in ‘07)
    • Mission - we give away substantial money each year to people engaged in mission abroad, local charities and worldwide organisations like  (~£10k in 07)
  • How do you decide on a budget?

The PCC starts with our vision - a sense of direction and values for the church in the coming year that flows out of prayer, conversations and listening to God together. We ask the question “where do we need to spend money to help ‘bridge’ from now into the future?”.
  • How much should I give?

That’s between you and God! Many Christians over the centuries have aimed for 10% of their income (as a minimum!) being given away - but many could manage more and some very much less. Jesus taught that God looks at the heart behind it, not the size of gift. Even if you can only give a small amount, please do.
