The church lit by hundreds of candles is a beautiful sight, but the annual Carols by Candlelight service, this year at 8pm on Sunday 19th, is rightly renowned for the quality of its music as much as for the evocative interior. A contemporary band – made up of church musicians – lead the congregation in classic carols, interspersed with bible readings. Richard, Vicar of All Souls, will speak and draw together some of the threads of what makes Christmas so powerful.

The service is followed, as always, by mulled wine and mince pies – a wonderful way to round off a memorable and moving evening. All welcome, though the nature and time of the service means it’s most accessible to teenagers and adults.
